NaNoWriMo

I am hugely doubting my ability to get anywhere with it, but I'm going to give NaNoWriMo a whirl this year.  Honestly, I wish I could've remembered about it earlier since I haven't got much of a plot to work with here, but I figure I can get a vague outline ready before November starts.

This means that somewhere mid-way through November, you all will have to spam me and tell me I can't quit when I'm half-done.  I've got to at least push through November, yeah?  For my pride's sake.

I've got to say though, sci-fi space opera is not a genre I've ever worked with.  We shall see how this works out.

I'm thinking of doing NaNo, too, and because I'm in Thesis Hell, I haven't really gotten that much planning done. So I don't know how it'll turn out. Though, I've got a basic plot but I'm sure I don't need to go far into it before I notice I don't have enough details. I plan to make up for it by inserting as many subtle references to musicals as I can. I hope I can come up with names for my characters before November starts, though. It's hard to write without names.

Anyway, I promise to encourage you to write! Writing is good! And space opera sounds like fun. I'm planning to try a romance novel just this once, because usually I'm always coming up with fantasy or historical ideas, but I secretly want to write a romance novel. Even though it'll probably be weird for a romance novel, but anyway.

Ah. Thesis Hell. Not something I'm looking forward to, but that's still a good few years away for me. Honestly, if you're busy with schoolwork, NaNoWriMo might not be a good idea. If it's just because you haven't got enough of the story worked out, I say you may as well go for it anyway. You'd never know if ideas might jump out at you along the way--that kind of problem might resolve itself. I guess I can't help you out much with names, but that may be a good place to squeeze in a less-than-subtle musical reference.

Something romance sounds like a good thing to play around with for November. You could always write a historical romance if you want to stick with the usual genres.

For the record, weird is good. :)

Well, my main plan is to be finished with Thesis Hell when November starts, so writing a silly romance novel would be just the thing to relax, you know. Except now I'm not sure if I indeed will finish it this week, so that may leave too little time to contemplate doing NaNo - especially since I'm going to be absent for a week in November anyway. If I don't end up doing it, I suppose there are other ways to indulge my creativity, such as finish all those fanfics I've started or planned. Or sign up for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide. There are European musical fandoms being nominated!

I need to stay away from historicals because I'm anal about research and never get enough done. So for once I want to write just a regular (well, sort of) romance novel set in today's time and the normal world. Only I already have one novel draft I should edit, and a few other ideas I should work on, so I haven't yet been able to decide if participating would be wise or not.

Anyway, good luck to you!

Thank you, and happy writing whatever you end up writing! :)

(Could I just say that I would love to see something European musical-related done for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide? Because it's true.)

And work.

And lots of hair pulling-out, I imagine.

I finished a NaNo last year. Surely if *I* can do it, you can. Not that the novel was ever edited into anything good, but uh, yeah.

I'm going to get a head start now: Don't quit! A Lannister always pays his debts!! ETC.!!!
