"How's college?" -- why thank you for asking
So I tackled the midterm in German this past Wednesday. Well, I didn't tackle it so much as I waltzed through it. Not a complete cake-walk though. I believe my 100% average is now hovering around 99%. Alas.
On the downside, my Chinese grade just hit the bucket, I believe. Now it's either a really, really low A, or it's in the B range. See, we had a chapter test yesterday. Did anyone know about it? Well, one guy did. It was on the syllabus. For some reason, the professor decided to have the test the day before we actually finished teaching the unit. First of all, that's bloody bizarre. Second of all, how the hell are we supposed to have studied and known we had all our characters right if you haven't even handed us back our homework? Third of all.... no, seriously. Just wtf.
I hate my Chinese teacher. Not as a teacher, though I hate her for that too (seriously, reading the vocab list aloud is not going to help a "heritage speakers" class that already knows how they're pronounced, though I'm pretty sure reading the vocab list aloud doesn't help the non-heritage classes either), but as a person. I'm nearly impossible to get worked up, let alone pissed off, but I'm not kidding when I say each class is an exercise of tolerance for me. She's a judgmental, self-righteous, bitch that assumes her entire class falls into one racial stereotype or another. She has gone on for entire lessons about how Chinese people are like this, American people are like that, and I'm just thinking what the fuck are you talking about. At first it was merely uncomfortable, and now it's just intolerable.
Sorry. Needed to vent. Hate her so much. And it is hate, and I hate very few people. More likely, I look down upon and am amused by people. Hate is rare for me. I'm not used to it.
Anyway, I just gave a group presentation in my Lit class. Just received an email saying we got an A. Good; that's 20% of my grade accounted for. Also got my paper back. I got an A on that too. Good; another 20% of my grade accounted for. We also had a pop quiz on the reading today. Between the presentation and other shit, I didn't do the reading. The good news is that he drops the lowest pop quiz grade. Well, that was my lowest pop quiz grade. Nothing like a 0/20! Someone just turned in their quiz with "I didn't do the reading, so here's a picture of a cow" with the most adorkable cow doodle I have ever seen. It made my day.
Midterm in microecon this coming Monday. Need to study for that. There was a sophomore I talked to that took the same professor for macro, and she said she'd never read the book, but went to every class and did the problem sets, which got her a good grade. So plan READ THE BOOK has been scratched now in favor of going over the problem sets and reviewing the chapter summaries to make sure I have everything understood. We'll see how it goes.

Gah. Somehow, I'm not entirely surprised by the judgmental attitude your Chinese teacher. I suppose that's how someone gets for being raised in a culture that can see itself as greater than others. :/
...Yay, cows! That's adorable. Points for honestly, I guess? :P

You have my sympathies. I had a Mandarin teacher like this before and i was so pissed off with her that I just dropped her class and joined the cool kids in Spanish. =p

Right now, I'm hoping I can switch over to a non-heritage section next semester, though she also teaches some of those too, so I'll just have to see what I can do with my schedule. If nothing works out, well... I'll have to suck it up.
