Inauguration
Jan. 20th, 2009 12:04 pmProud to have been an Obama supporter since the very start.
I've been ignoring my newspapers and blogs and generally staying uninformed for the last semester, but now I remember with a startling clarity exactly why Barack Obama has a stupid amount of my money. It's a good feeling. I needed the reminder.
I think our generation, with the definition of "my" generation being those that were too young to remember any of Clinton's accomplishments and grew up under the Bush regime, needs this. By this, I don't mean a democrat in the White House (although that's nice), but I mean quite literally hope. A renewed trust in politics. We're all so cynical. No one trusts the government. No one trusts that anyone in power means to do good, or if they do mean good, no one believes they can possibly get anything done. What's worse are people so world-weary that they don't believe the government cares or that their vote matters. There's something distinctly unsettling about growing up in America, yet not believing your voice matters.
Also: if any of you back home complains about the cold, we've got over three feet of snow here, so shut up.
ETA: Cheney had a 13% approval raiding leaving office? Holy shit.
